Biography
Dr. Octavio Pimentel joined The Department of English at Texas State University in 2005. He has taught various classes in the Technical Communication and Rhetoric and Composition fields, including first-year composition, advanced composition, technical writing, as well as critical graduate courses that encompass issues of minority languages, rhetoric, and writing. Critically trained in rhetoric, writing, and education, Dr. Pimentel combines these fields to address critical issues pertaining to minoritized individuals in the Rhetoric and Composition field as well as in the Technical Communication fields.
Since his arrival at Texas State University, Dr. Pimentel has published 5 books and more than 30 articles: Pimentel, Octavio and Miriam Williams. Williams) (Baywood Press, 2014), which won the 2016 Technical and Scientific Communication Award for Best Collection of Essays and the National Book Award. Currently, Dr. Pimentel is working on his 6th book titled Literacy and Educación: A Historical View of a Latino Fraternity and is expected to be published in 2022.
Since 2005, Dr. Pimentel has also presented at over 40 national and international conferences and has won several awards for his scholarship. Most recently, in the fall of 2015, Dr. Pimentel was nominated by the Department of English for the Presidential Distinction Award for Scholarship. In the 2014-2015 academic year, Dr. Pimentel also won the Texas State University Excellence in Diversity Award. Currently, Dr. Pimentel serves on the Editorial Board for the CCC (College Composition and Communication) Journal and TCQ (Technical Communication Quarterly), and JBTC (Journal of Business and Technical Communication).
