How to Apply

2 Steps to apply to the MATC Program. This information is intended to guide the MATC Program applicant.

Step 1: Applying to the Graduate College

Students must first apply to the Graduate College and submit the following requirements:

  1. Have earned, or will have earned, a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university at the time of admission.
  2. A minimum G.P.A. of 2.75 on the last 60 undergraduate semester hours of letter-grade work, earned at a four-year college or university, before receipt of a Bachelor's degree (including any previously completed graduate work).
  3. A copy of an official transcript from each institution where course credit was earned.
  4. G.R.E. scores are not required for the MATC Program but may be submitted.
  5. Optional letters of recommendation.
  6. International students are required to submit TOEFL, PTE, or IELTS scores that meet the minimum program requirements unless they have earned a bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or the equivalent from a country on our exempt countries list.
  7. Complete the Graduate College application and pay the non-refundable application fee:
    • $55.00 per application
    • $90 per international application

Step 2: Applying to the MATC Program

Students must simultaneously apply to the MATC Program in conjunction with the Graduate School. The MATC Program uses the same graduate application but these uploaded requirements will be reviewed by the MATC faculty. The following are requirements of the MATC Program:

  1. Students applying to the MATC Program must have received a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 in 12 or more undergraduate English, writing, editing, web design, technical or professional writing coursework (other courses may be considered by the graduate advisor).
  2. Students must submit a writing portfolio (as a single PDF document) including:
    • at least two non-fiction prose documents consisting of at least one academic research paper (for a combined minimum of 15 pages, double-spaced).
    • a cover letter describing your reasons for pursuing the MATC Program that demonstrates:
      • interest and/or experience in writing or editing 
      • interest and/or experience designing online or print documents
      • interest and/or experience in user design
      • interest in completing a graduate thesis
      • and other pertinent information

The MATC Program DEADLINE is on a rolling flexible deadline. Applications, transcripts, and portfolios must be received by June 15 for the fall semester, November 1 for the spring semester, and April 15 for the summer semester.

Please Note: Applications and transcripts must be sent to the Graduate College, and portfolios must be sent directly to the MATC office.
